After application

While minoxidil is still wet on the scalp (first twenty to forty-five minutes depending on format), a hat placed directly against the scalp may wick product away from the scalp surface, reducing absorbed dose. Wait for full drying — foam in twenty minutes, solution in thirty to forty-five — before putting a hat on. After that, hats have no effect on the drug that has already been absorbed into scalp tissue.

Hat wearing generally

Hats do not cause androgenetic alopecia. The claim that tight hats restrict circulation and cause hair loss is not supported by evidence. AGA is driven by genetic follicle sensitivity to DHT, not by mechanical compression from headwear. Wearing hats for sun protection — particularly relevant for thinning scalps with less UV coverage from hair — is a positive, not a concern.
